Demystifying Artificial Intelligence

Learn more about what AI is, debug some of the myths surrounding it and get insight into how it learns from data!

In this 60-minute workshop, we’ll use Scratch to train our own AI to distinguish between two different objects! Google’s Teachable Machine helps us do this! Teachable Machine is a web-based tool that makes creating machine learning models fast and easy. We’ll be using Teachable Machine to train our computers to recognize images then we’ll use that model inside our Scratch program.

Important Note: It is recommended that participants have a Scratch MIT account (not Scratch for CS First). However, even without an account, participants will be able to download their work locally. Participants should also have access to a Chromebook, laptop or desktop and access to the internet.

Coding Made Easy with CS First

CS First is Google’s free, computer science curriculum that makes coding easy to teach and fun to learn. CS First allows students to learn through video-based lessons, and is aligned to the Ontario math curriculum. Coding inside a version of the Scratch editor made specifically for CS First activities also allows teachers to have direct access to all of their students’ work inside the CS First Dashboard. Worried about student privacy? No need! CS First allows students to log in with anonymous usernames and passwords. Not a Google District? No problem! It works on any platform. If you haven’t heard about CS First, this session is not to be missed!

Or maybe you’ve already coded before, but never inside Minecraft: Education Edition!  This is the session for you.  We’ll explore and learn the basics of coding and dive into some creative activities such as Chicken Rain and Flower Trail! We’ll then explore some of the pre-built worlds specifically designed with coding as the focus.  Let’s make your code come to life in Minecraft! (This lesson is perfect for the beginner coder and the beginner Minecrafter!)
