Green Sports Day Co-Taught Lesson

October 6, 2021 at 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm EDT

What does climate change have to do with sports?

The world’s youth have sent a message loud and clear: they want more climate action. Now, the sports industry is responding.

On October 6th, Green Sports Day, the Canadian sports community will meet to discuss the ways our industry can ‘do better’ and act on climate change.

Join three Olympians and a sport researcher to learn about how sports are being used to fight climate change, and how you can be part of the solution.

Who we'll be learning with:

Martha McCabe

2X Olympian in Swimming (London 2012 & Rio 2016). Founder and President of Head to Head

Dr. Maddy Orr

Lecturer at the Institute of Sport Business at Loughborough University London. Founder of The Sport Ecology Group

Émilie Fournel

3X Olympian Sprint Kayaking (Beijing 2008, London 2012 & Rio 2016). Coordinator for Game Plan at the Canadian Olympic Committee

Seyi Smith

2X Olympian in both Winter and Summer Games (London 2012 & Pyeongchang 2018). Founder of Racing to Zero - YYC

After this co-taught lesson, you and your class will walk away feeling inspired and empowered to take action in the fight against climate change, and equipped to begin a conversation about sustainability both in and out of sport!
