CS First for Grade 9 Coding – Educator Workshop

October 18, 2021 at 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Free Funded by Google Canada

Bring coding into your new grade 9 course with CS First!

The new Grade 9 de-streamed Mathematics course, MTH1W, brings coding to your classroom.  CS First can help you and your students learn to code, manage coding projects, allow you to give feedback on your student’s work and inspire a new way of problem-solving.

We know some of your students are expert coders, while others have never explore computer science.  That’s okay!  CS First helps the beginner or advanced learner learn new coding strategies and refine their practice.

Google Canada & The Cobblestone Collective have partnered together to bring you this one-hour PD workshop, specific for MTH1W teachers, to help initiate and align coding in the Grade 9 curriculum using Grade 1-8 as a springboard.  We’ll explore:

  • CS Terms related to the grade 1-8 curriculum along with Scratch examples to help you deconstruct what the terms mean
  • The CS First Unplugged Workbook which shares great ideas to better understand what coding is without the use of a computer
  • An Introduction to CS First along with videos for teachers to help you understand know how to get started with CS First

Walk away from this educator workshop ready to dive into coding with your class the next day!

Thank you Google Canada for making this workshop free to all educators!
