BuildAbility with Minecraft: Education Edition
Celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day Together

A new Minecraft World for your class to explore
BuildAbility is a brand new Minecraft: Education Edition world designed specifically to help your students understand, identify, and work to eliminate accessibility barriers in their school and community!
Your class is invited to join us as we explore this world and begin the conversations surrounding accessibility. This is a lesson series that your class won’t want to miss!
BuildAbility was designed in collaboration with the Peel District School Board. Barriers explored in this world are a reflection of the knowledge and lived experiences of students and educators.
Lesson One - May 19th
Global Accessibility Awareness Day
Global Accessibility Awareness Day’s purpose is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion as there are more than 1 billion individuals with disabilities/impairments.
Using the new Minecraft: Education Edition world, BuildAbility, this 60-minute hands-on co-taught lesson will explore five types of accessibility barriers and begin to identify them in various school and community environments.
Students will begin to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those with disabilities and learn, using information and authentic voices, about ways in which they can advocate for and support those individuals.

Can't make it to a live lesson?
The lessons are always recorded, so if your class cannot join us live, don’t worry!
Register your class and use this lesson series when it best fits your class schedule!
You have questions; we have your answers:
Think of us as a virtual guest speaker.
Our facilitation team handles the lesson planning and facilitation of a lesson with your teachers and their students together.
Each lesson showcases the ideas and strategies allowing both the teacher and students to learn new skills through modelling.
These lessons are specifically curated for students in Grade 2 to Grade 8 (Ages 8 to 13).
Nope – that would be a lot of work and we’re all about saving you time!
Please just register the educators of your class (teacher, EA, support staff, etc.)
Please do not register your students.
Nothing! We want to keep all student information private and will never ask you to share it with us.
During the livestream lesson, we’ll be using an interactive form. The form only has two questions:
- Your first name (or your teacher’s name – and optional!)
- Your answer to the question asked
This allows us to interact with your class, while keeping their personal information safe.
Yes, all students (and you!) need Minecraft: Education Edition usernames and passwords.
As usernames and passwords are unique to each school, please connect with your school’s IT Team to find out your school board’s log-in information.
We also encourage each student to have their own device to participate fully.
Before all lessons, please have Minecraft: Education Edition (version 1.17.32) installed and ready to play. You’ll also want to make sure that your students know their usernames and passwords.
